Song 9 - Do Rei Me
Posted byDo Rei Me, another Guthrie song, was made 1940 and is about the Dust Bowl and how it affected the people living there. Obviously, most people would think that living anywhere but in a place that has nothing left but dust would be the optimal choice. However, there were tolls and payments that had to be given in order to move and if you didn’t have what was need, you were stuck living your life in the Dust Bowl. This song reminds me once again of America’s suffering throughout the ages. So many people were stuck where they were, living off of the barest of necessities and being unable to do anything about it. They could dream of leaving but the chance of it actually happening and being successful were always low. It’s strange to see how stubborn Americans are yet the second something goes wrong they want to move and try to start somewhere new, despite warnings. Heck even the song is advising them to sit tight in their homes and wait for the worst of it to pass over. And if they do wait, they usually end up thriving more then they would’ve in a new place.
